Are you sleep deprived because of someone’s snoring?

Snoring is more than just a little annoying. It can lead to sleep deprivation for anyone who is unlucky enough to try to sleep near the snorer. I live with someone who snores and his overnight racket causes me to be exhausted and just plain irritated with him during our waking hours. It becomes difficult to focus on work, my patience is lowered and I am desperate to find a cure!

My husband has had a sleep study that said he does not have sleep apnea, but I think it may be time to do another one. His snoring has increased in volume and consistency over the years and an anesthesiologist recently told him he must have sleep apnea. I think I would be happy with a diagnosis, because then we could work on a solution. Many people who snore can attribute it to sleep apnea, and 75% of their spouses have sought out a solution to the snoring.

This video demonstrates exactly how I feel after a night of listening to my husband snore.

Up to 90% of people with sleep apnea are undiagnosed. There are treatments available to help people with sleep apnea get a good night’s sleep, and their spouses too.  A proper diagnosis can not only improve sleep for their spouses, but also for the people living with sleep apnea. My husband often feels like he’s had little sleep through the night, even though I can guarantee he was not awake. I wonder if his own snoring wakes him up!

If you are living with someone who snores, be sure to take the quiz to see if the cause may be sleep apnea. That could be the first step in improving your quality of sleep.

That woman in the video is me!! lol The only way I can get any sleep at all in the last 15 years, is to go to a different room….with earplugs! Thanks for this, I got a high score on the quiz, and I think it’s time to get some help!

My husband snores horribly and has sleep apnea. He uses a CPap machine now but before we got that I’d put 2 earplugs in each ear. I could never sleep through the noise.

DH and I have not slept in the same room for almost 2 years now. He had the apnea test done and it came back as not apnea but the snoring is very very loud. I do not look forward to the times we have to share a bed when staying in a hotel, camping or with relatives.

I wish we had an answer.

I wish my hubby would go for a sleep study. He snores horribly and I really believe he is having apnea.

I have to try to fall asleep before my hubby… otherwise I’m a sufferer.

My husband has sleep appnea and has a machine and now air builds up under his mask and he has a snore in and air out..grrrr I get an hour at a time and yell turn on your side, he does and for 5 minutes it’s tolerable and then back on his back, then he gets mad because I have the gull to wake him up a few times! Some days I just want to ram that mask up his nose or smother him with a pillow! Then I sleep 3 or 4 hours during the day now just to have a few hours sleep and he says you know you should sleep at night! Really?

Sometimes I snore if lay on my back. I have been thinking about having a sleep study done just to make sure it’s not something major.

a dental appliance can sometimes help but only a specialist can determine that

My hubby’s parents both have sleep apnea and C-PAP machines. In spite of this, my hubby, who snores horribly as I have taped him before, refuses to get himself tested. I even got tested to try to encourage him. I am sure that he would benefit from treatment as would I if he was :).

if you suspect you have sleep issues, or if someone you know snores horribly, you should see a doctor for a sleep study

I know someone who snores more when he’s overweight. When he loses some of the extra weight he snores less, or even stops snoring.

The husband has dealt with sleep apnea for at least 20 years. So important to be tested if your thinking you or someone you know has it.
