Children’s dreams and goals are only limited by what they are exposed to. At one point in time little girls were given baby dolls and fashion Barbies who drove pink convertibles and purple campers. Their rooms were lined with play kitchens and doll houses and their dress up options often included tutus and princess dresses.
Thank goodness for progression.
Gender equality is an ongoing battle, but the changes we’ve made are obvious when you look at many of the games and toys that children play with today. Even the traditional toys like Barbie are making changes. Today’s Barbieâ„¢ is encouraging little ones to be anything they want, with her new campaign: You Can Be Anything!
Barbie is no longer just a fashion icon or hula dancer. She currently has over 155 careers represented and that number is always climbing. From Mermaid to Movie Star, Pet Vet to Police Officer, Fashionista to Fairy Princess, there are countless choices for your little ones to let their imagination soar.
You Can Be Anything Barbie

As a mom to boys and a girl, I have witnessed the differences in how they are spoken to, what is expected of them and what they think they can do when they grow up. I appreciate Barbie demonstrating that there are many options available to women these days. I have heard my daughter contemplate being an engineer, a journalist and most recently she has been thinking about being an architect. I love that she isn’t letting gender decide her career for her, and hopefully she isn’t even aware that there is a gender barrier in some of those areas. Whether she decides to be an architect, a construction worker, a fashion designer or a nurse I will be proud of her. I just want her to know that her options are wide open.
