Killing Germs at Home and On the Road

Germs are everywhere, but having children in the house turns every surface into a breeding ground for germs. I have always been one to ensure the doorknobs and light switches are disinfected with Lysol® Disinfectant Spray or Lysol® Wipes, but a few years ago I had to learn how to fight the battle against germs a little harder.

At age 10, my son was diagnosed with an autoimmune disease. It is very important that we help him stay healthy by avoiding contact with viruses. That is easier said than done in a house with three kids and a dog! Since we can’t keep him in a bubble, we had to learn how to disinfect items like the computer keyboard, his game controllers, the bunk bed ladder, Lego and the books on the bookshelf. Thankfully the answer was already in our cleaning arsenal.

Using Lysol® Disinfectant Spray on these hard to disinfect surfaces gives me peace of mind, especially when one of the kids is sick and when we are traveling. Yes, I have packed Lysol in my checked luggage to use in hotel rooms. I don’t want health issues and the possibility of germs to stop my son from seeing the world, and I can’t put my faith in the cleaning abilities of hotel staff. Whether we are away or at home, our space isn’t always clean and tidy, but it’s always disinfected.

My son is 13 now and I’m happy to say that our efforts have been successful. Even when the rest of the family has ended up with a virus, he has managed to avoid it despite having a suppressed immune system. I believe it is completely due to our heightened focus on disinfecting his belongings and areas. I think it’s time that we treat everyone else’s areas with the same dedication. I’m off to spray some backpacks and stuffed animals!
