Spring is in the air, and that means it is time for spring cleaning! This year it is all about purging and refreshing in my house. My youngest son is going to be nine this year and the baby and toddler toys really need to go. Thankfully we have no shortage of nieces and nephews to pass them on to. Somehow it is easier to part with things when we know they are going to someone we love.
As I pull books off of shelves and toys from their homes, I’m uncovering a whole lot of dust! It’s easy to tell which toys can go because they are the ones covered in an inch of dust, even if my children insist they play with every one of them all of the time. It’s nothing a Swiffer Duster can’t handle though. My daughter finds it particularly hard to part with anything, even clothes that don’t fit her anymore. She will push them to the back of the drawers or hide them in her closet so that she can keep them. There are times I have found clothing that she outgrew years before. I try to get her to let things go, but sometimes I just go in and do the purge myself because it is easier.
The clothes that have been hiding at the back of the closet definitely need a little refreshing before we pass them on. I wash them with Tide, Downy Unstopables and Bounce and they smell and feel like brand new when they are passed along to my niece. While I am doing that, I also wash my winter clothing so that it can stay fresh while it is stored throughout the summer.
