Like many people, we are always working on our home. We may be finishing the basement, adding a new bathroom, painting or building a deck, but there's always something going on. I don't think it will ever be finished because after living in a house for over a decade, you circle back to replacing or repairing the original fixtures in the home. Over the past year we've noticed that the dishwasher doesn't clean as well as it once did. The ice maker stops making ice. The shingles on the roof … [Read more...] about Home Owner Dilemmas
Our house was a new build when we bought it, so we were lucky enough to choose the interior of the home, including the paint colours. Unfortunately, the builder’s paint wasn’t exactly the quality I would have hoped for and it didn’t take long for the walls to get scuffs and marks on them. Over the years we have been repainting the house using quality paint that can be wiped clean when needed. Our bathrooms were painted in a high-gloss paint so they weren’t a high priority for re-painting and … [Read more...] about Out With the Old & In With the Blue #DIYWithBen
It's amazing what a coat of paint can do. If you remember how our bathroom looked a few weeks ago, you will know that it was just drywalled. Since then we sanded, primed and painted. The paint we chose was Behr Premium Plus Interior Satin Enamel. It paints on smoothly and will stand up well in the washroom. You can see it in the photo below. You can also see that our toilet has been successfully installed! It is the American Standard Mainstream Complete Toilet. It came with everything you … [Read more...] about Our new washroom is in the home stretch #DIY
This has been the year of changes and repairs in my house. We repainted a lot of the house, built a bathroom and we are making lists of what is going to happen next. I'm pretty good at choosing colours and flooring, but when it comes to decorating I get a big FAIL. I'm embarrassed to admit that I have almost nothing hanging on my walls and our focal point is currently the television (which I think is fine with my husband and kids, but I would like that to change). It's not that I've never … [Read more...] about Home Decorating for Dummies?
When we decided to build the bathroom in the basement, I knew that I wanted to tile the floor. Truth be told, I wanted to tile the whole shower but that was really beyond my budget so I settled on a classy looking shower stall and tile on the floor. We chose the LILA FRENCH Shower Kit, and Naturi Lagos Grey tile. A tile floor can be really affordable and it looks high end, adding value to your home. My plan was to take a workshop at Home Depot and learn how to tile a floor myself. If you are … [Read more...] about Ceramic Tile Makes the Room
I have four children, so I know all about messes. Whether their hands are covered in mud, glue, paint, toothpaste, hair gel or whatever other substance they got into...I will find it on my faucets. I saved myself some cleaning by getting a hands free soap dispenser, but that didn't solve the problem of the hand prints on the faucet. Not only does it look awful, but it can also be hard to clean. Did you know that oatmeal practically turns to cement when it dries? Thankfully, I now have the … [Read more...] about My Delta Touch Faucet lets me play more and clean less
