Function and Fashion with the Miche Bag

I have never been one to spoil myself, so the thought of buying designer handbags never really crossed my mind. However, as I’ve gotten older and watched many episodes of Oprah and What Not to Wear, I’ve learned I need to take care of “me”, and own at least one really nice handbag. With Miche Bags, one bag is all you need!

ABOUT MICHE BAGS

On the way home from work in the fall of 2004 Michelle Romero did something most women have done – she spilled on her favorite handbag. Frustrated by the thought of hunting for a replacement then transferring all the contents, she wished there was a way to just change the outside of the bag. The idea immediately popped into her mind to create a bag with changeable covers. Not to be deterred by her lack of sewing skills, Michelle grabbed her super glue and scrap fabric, took apart the stained bag, and made the very first prototype. With her rough creation in hand, Michelle set out on a mission to bring to life the Miche bag.

Michelle showed the prototype to her friend, Annette Cavaness, who immediately loved the idea. Annette used her knowledge as an accessories buyer to work with Michelle on developing a business plan and perfecting the product. The combination of each of their unique strengths and experiences made it clear that the two were destined to be business partners. Together they met with a patent lawyer and a sourcing agent, and soon the product became a reality.

Michelle and Annette both felt that the name would be a very important part of the product. After brainstorming many ideas the name “Miche” (pronounced, “MEE-chee”) was suggested after the nick name Michelle’s mother-in-law gave her. Naturally, the name for the many changeable covers became “Chelle” playing on the aspect of the cover being a “shell” for the bag as well as finishing the name Michelle.

The first samples were tested personally by Michelle and Annette. They loved changing the bag each day to match their outfits without the hassle of changing the contents from purse. They also love the convenience the Chelles provide by stacking 20 Chelles in the space of what two small handbags would use. It quickly created excitement among family and friends, who continue to provide a wide variety of ideas for Chelles they would love to have. Many new products and ideas are being developed with the endless possibilities of the Miche Bag. And to think, it all started with a spill!

MY THOUGHTS

I’m a busy Mom. I work more than one job. I lead a Girl Guide troop; go to my kids’  hockey games and ballet recitals. I go to business meetings; staff meetings; parent-teacher conferences and dinners. I try to have date nights with my husband, and work out at the gym with my friend. One purse doesn’t fit into all of these different activities, and I don’t have time to transfer all of my belongings from one bag to the next.  That is why the Miche bag is perfect for me.

I have the Big Bag, which is pretty big. Aside from the usual wallet, lip balm, hand cream, pen and cell phone; I can also carry my camera (which all bloggers know is an absolute must), a novel and a variety of kids items that may or may not keep them quiet when I need some peace. Even with all of that, I still have space in the bag. The greatest thing about the Big Bag is not the size though…it is the options. I have two shells for my Miche bag, Oakley and Sandy.

Oakley

Thanks to its go-with-anything metallic pewter color, the Oakley Shell for Big Bags just might become your very favorite of all. Its simple, classic design and tasteful ebony accents allow the Oakley to complement a wide variety of outfits—especially when you’re wearing black. Modern buckle detailing on the end pockets is an especially nice touch. Oakley transitions beautifully from day to night: just dress it up with the Chain Handles in black.

Oakley is perfect for date night or any event where I want to feel a little more “dressed up” than usual. I added a little bling charm to the side of my Oakley bag, and I love having it on my shoulder. The colour goes with everything and the sheen give it just the right touch. I think it would look great with the chain handles.

Sandy

Are you ready for an afternoon of fun at the zoo or a delightful al fresco lunch under the shade of a big elm tree? Be sure to take along the Sandy Shell for Big Base Bags. Solid classic camel-colored canvas construction is tough enough to hold everything you need, but the addition of wrap-around belt loops and two fabric ribbons to choose from makes your handbag totally voguish as well. You choose which of our two fabric ribbons (both included) suits your outfit best. Pair with our Big Bag Long Strap in black for easy over-the-shoulder toting.

The Sandy bag came with two ties. When mine arrived it had the floral ribbon in it, and that just really wasn’t my style, so I switched it out to the navy and white striped ribbon. I liked this a lot more. It makes it sophisticated and casual at the same time, and it is a bag I could carry anywhere. It feels like a durable fabric that I don’t worry about getting scuffed or ruined. While tidying up my daughter’s room, I found an orange silk scarf of mine that I love, and thought it would look great on my Sandy bag. I LOVE IT! I love that my Sandy bag is so versatile that I can change the look simply by changing the ribbon. The possibilities are truly endless!

I love my Miche bags! I have the big bag and the classic small bag and several shells. Living in a fifth wheel I don’t have a lot of room to keep a bunch of purses so Miche was the perfect solution for me.
