Last week my family had the chance to head off to the John Labatt Centre in London, Ontario to see the live production of How to Train Your Dragon. This movie was a fast favourite in my house, so we had big expectations for the live show! I had visited their website and showed the kids what the dragons looked like, but we were unprepared for how amazing it really was.
How to Train Your Dragon is a combination of incredibly realistic dragons (all three of the kids asked if they were real dragons), amazing acrobatics and a fantastic light show that creates the illusion of movement, of being under water and even of a larger than life dragon. There were real flames shooting out of parts of the set and we could feel the heat, creating an even more realistic experience.

The show is brand new, and they did experience some technical difficulties that made them take a break, but we used it as an opportunity for a bathroom break. The show was quickly back on though, and we were able to see Hiccup flying on the Night Fury with Astrid. It was quite a sight! I couldn’t get any pictures that really did the dragons justice, so I took this short video of one part of the show. You will be amazed with the dragon!
If you get a chance to see this show, definitely take the kids! I took my 4, 8 and 9 year olds and they all loved it. The show was about two hours long with a 20 minute intermission (we had an extra little intermission, but I wouldn’t expect that) and of course they had all kinds of dragon toys, hats, shirts and programs for sale in the lobby. I read on their website that you can also purchase a VIP Experience and get a chance to see the dragons up close. That would be quite the experience!
