May is for Mothers! #NaturallyAtHome

May is a special month for all Moms because of Mother’s Day. I love May for a lot of reasons, along with Mother’s Day. It is the month that my daughter was born. She’s my only girl and she was the best Mother’s Day gift ever. In May I can plant my vegetable garden, which is a project I can do with my children while teaching them about health and sustainability. It is the month where we are on the cusp of summer and finally get to be outside in t-shirts and shorts while we enjoy the beautiful warm air. This May has been more appreciated than ever, after such a long and cold winter.

My Mother’s Day was spent at the Toronto Zoo, where we enjoyed beautiful weather and a chance to spend time together without the distractions of home. I had high expectations that were somewhat dashed by my children fighting early on in the day, but after sitting down for some lunch and a chat they all got their smiles on and we had a nice day.

Another awesome May activity we found is geocaching. I have always been interested in this but never really understood what it was all about. After doing some research online, I downloaded the geocaching app and we headed out to a local conservation area for our treasure hunt. Avery made bracelets with her rainbow loom so that we would have something to leave behind. We found a few geocaches and we definitely will be heading out to find more in the near future. It was a lot of fun and a great family activity!

For me, Mother’s Day and the whole month of May is full of quality family time. Bike riding, going for walks, playing at the playground and soccer games fill our free time and we are all happy to soak in a little sun. It is how I stay balanced as a mother and how I reconnect with my children.
