Putting Family First #InsuranceThatFits

When you ask most parents what is most valuable to them, they will say their children. If you ask about their most valuable possession, most will say their home. Both are definitely true for me.

Owning my own home was a big dream of mine. My parents purchased their first home later in life and I saw what a challenge it was, and how it would be better to make that financial leap earlier. It didn’t happen as early as I had hoped, but just about eleven years ago my husband and I bought our first home. We moved in with our 11 year old son, our 2 year old son and our one year old daughter.

My father taught me early on about the important of insurance. He lost his father to a heart attack when he was just 19 years old, so he knew the importance of having something for those left behind. I signed my first life insurance policy when I was twenty years old, and bought content insurance when I moved into my first apartment, so mortgage insurance wasn’t anything to waffle about. After all, my children are the most significant thing in my life and I would never want to leave them homeless or responsible for my mortgage and bills if something were to happen to me or my husband.

While a critical illness can seem scary, the odds are you will survive. In all likelihood, you know of someone who’s been diagnosed with cancer, heart attack, or stroke. It happens to approximately one out of every two men and one in two women in Canada. But while the incidence of critical illness is increasing every year, advances in medical science are helping victims beat life-threatening illnesses like never before.

TD Mortgage Critical Illness Insurance provides a benefit you receive while you are alive. It may pay a benefit if you fall victim to critical cancer, Acute Heart Attack, or Stroke. These are the most common critical illnesses, occurring across all ages in Canada. They are most likely to affect the average Canadian at a time when they have a mortgage.

It does not matter if/when you recover, the TD Mortgage Critical Illness Insurance can pay out up to $500,000 to your TD mortgage in the event of a covered critical illness, so you can concentrate on health, recovery, and family.

I can’t imagine how comforting it would be to know that the mortgage is taken care of if my husband or I were in that situation. We know firsthand how difficult it can be to manage a serious health condition and removing the financial stress would be a relief and it could very well aid in the healing process.

While I hope that we never have to face any of these serious health concerns, I feel it is important to ensure my family is taken care of if the situation should arise. After all, they are the most important to thing to me!

When it comes to insurance I feel better knowing it is there if we need it. The premiums are a small price to pay if anything every happens and you need it.

Thanks for the article. I know families that were having a difficult time because they didn’t opt in for critical illness. It’s something that is a piece of mind for your family as you never know what life will swing at you.
