It is Thanksgiving today in Canada, so what better day to share the things I am thankful for. It has been a very difficult year with my child’s suicide attempt, job losses and health concerns, but we do have a great deal to be thankful for.

I am thankful for my Mother-in-law’s fight back against cancer. After a doctor told us that she had a few months at best, she proved him wrong and is doing really well 15 months since diagnosis. The idea of losing her and watching my children lose someone so important to them was devastating and I’m so grateful that she is a success story.
I am grateful for my mother. We are never too old to need our mothers and mine has been especially helpful this past year. I am grateful that she and I are going to the Beaches Moms conference in Turks and Caicos. It is the first time the two of us will travel alone together.
I am not thankful for my child’s suicide attempt, but I am grateful that the event itself seemed to open some doors to love, communication and acceptance among the entire family. I am thankful that things have only improved since then.
I am grateful for my husband and children and to have them all here with me today. My husband is unflinchingly supportive of me and my career and is a great partner for raising our children.

I am thankful for my career. It has opened so many doors for me, helped me to understand myself a little better and overcome some insecurities. I value the time it allows me with my family, the freedom to take a step back when needed and the creative outlet. So many things I never dreamed could happen have been made possible because of this blog.
Along the same lines as my career, I am thankful for the community of blogging women that I connect with every day. Their ideas, questions, accountability groups, quotes and even criticisms help me grow my site and push the limits.
I’m also thankful that I have a turkey in the oven to serve my family today, and I’m going to spend the rest of my day tending to that.
